Gold Winners will receive cash awards. All prizewinners will perform in a Festival Recital at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall.

This Competition will consist of two rounds of auditions. In the case of a time conflict for the preliminary round, the Competition Committee will accept and review a properly labeled VHS tape or DVD, accompanied by a copy of the working score of the piece, which must be submitted one week prior to the Preliminary Round accompanied by a written reason for not attending live auditions. (YPCNJ will only excuse those students who have either academic obligations (i.e. SAT tests) or recitals. Other conflicts will not be accepted!)

No time changes will be allowed in the schedule for ANY reason.

Winners will be determined by the scores from the FINAL ROUND only.

IMPORTANT REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL MEMBERS:  TEACHERS OR INDIVIDUAL MEMBERS

Applicant must list both pieces, even though for the preliminary round, the competitors are required to perform only one piece {either a Classical or a Baroque work}.   Incomplete applications will be returned unprocessed, and a late fee will have to be paid.

A letter of instructions is sent before each round to either a teacher member or individual member.  You must read the letter VERY carefully and follow the instructions, which are described in great detail.  This information pertains to the repertoire requirements and copies of the scores, etc.  Those who fail to comply with our instructions will be disqualified.

REPERTOIRE REQUIREMENTS:

A program of two stylistically contrasting works. These works must be original compositions. Pieces from method books will not be accepted. (No repertoire changes are permitted between rounds)

Preliminary Round

ONLY ONE PIECE:

Either classical or baroque style. The Classical work must be either a Sonata, Sonatina, Rondo, or Variation form. (Please exclude Fur Elise, the First Movement of the Moonlight Sonata, the Second Movement of the Pathetique Sonata, and Bagatelles of Beethoven, as well as the D Minor Fantasy and A la Turk of Mozart). No slow movements of Classical Sonatas of Sonatinas will be allowed).

Final Round

TWO PIECES:

Either classical or baroque work (performed in preliminary Round)

Work of any other style.
